Federal tax deadlines

For calendar-year filers

  6. Q4 payroll returns (Form 941 and Form 940) EmployersMoved from Sun, Jan 31 Make my deadline

The IRS can postpone deadlines for people and businesses in federally declared disaster areas, so check IRS.gov disaster relief if you were affected. State and local deadlines differ and are not shown. This is general information, not tax advice.

How these dates are set

These are federal deadlines for calendar-year filers. When a due date lands on a weekend or federal holiday, it moves to the next business day, and we show the moved date. Fiscal-year filers have different dates. Dates in 2027 are computed from the IRS rules until the IRS posts its 2027 calendar.

We work from

  • Bank statements
  • Credit card statements
  • Merchant payouts
  • Payroll registers
  • Loan statements
  • Invoices and bills
  • Receipts
  • 1099s and W-2s
  • Sales tax returns
  • Prior tax returns
  • QuickBooks and Xero files
  • Spreadsheets

When the deadline won't move.

Hand us the problem. We hand back finished books, filed returns and answers: CPA-reviewed, with attorneys on the team when the deadline carries legal exposure.

Seven yes or no questions. Each yes marks a place where credits, deductions or overpaid tax may be waiting. No estimates: eligibility is confirmed before anything is filed.

A brass loupe on a ledger page, magnifying an entry circled in red pencil
  1. Do you build software, products, formulas or processes, or improve how things are made?

    If yes, look at

    Research credit and R&D costs

Work that develops or improves a product, software or process may earn the federal research credit (IRC 41, Form 6765). Since tax year 2025, domestic research costs are generally deductible in the year you pay them (IRC 174A), not spread over five years.

    Rules and limits

Eligibility turns on a four-part test and good records. We confirm it before anything is filed. The one-time option for small businesses to amend 2022 through 2024 returns for these costs ended July 6, 2026. Source: IRS.gov

  2. Did you buy equipment, vehicles, software or improvements for the business?

    If yes, look at

    Faster write-offs and missed depreciation

Business assets can often be written off faster than the standard schedule, using section 179 or bonus depreciation. If depreciation was missed in past years, an accounting method change (Form 3115) can sometimes claim it.

    Rules and limits

Rules depend on the asset, the date it was placed in service and the business's income. Skipped depreciation still lowers the asset's basis, so missing it costs you twice. Source: IRS.gov

  3. Before 2026, did you hire people who were long-term unemployed, veterans or on benefits like SNAP?

    If yes, look at

Hiring credits (Work Opportunity Tax Credit)

Hires who started work on or before December 31, 2025 may still qualify for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, if each one was certified.

    Rules and limits

The credit covers people who started work on or before December 31, 2025. The IRS page checked on 2026-10-15 shows no extension for later hires. The employer must have filed Form 8850 within 28 days of the start date and received state certification. If that was not done, the credit is generally not available. Source: IRS.gov

  4. Have you paid IRS penalties for filing late, paying late or late payroll deposits?

    If yes, look at

    IRS penalty relief

If your last three years were filed on time with no penalties, the IRS can remove certain penalties. For 2025 returns and 2026 quarterly returns, a new Automatic Exemption from Penalty applies on its own. For earlier periods, you ask for First Time Abate.

    Rules and limits

It covers failure to file, failure to pay and failure to deposit penalties. It does not cover the daily delinquency penalty. If you do not qualify, you may still ask for relief for reasonable cause. Source: IRS.gov

  5. Do you collect or pay sales tax, in one state or several?

    If yes, look at

    Sales tax overpaid

Businesses often overpay sales tax by taxing exempt sales, filing twice, or paying in a state where they owed nothing. States allow refund claims, but each state sets its own deadline.

    Rules and limits

Time limits and forms vary by state. In Nevada, a refund claim is due within 3 years after the last day of the month following the period of the overpayment. After that, the money goes to the State General Fund. Source: Nevada Department of Taxation

  6. Do you work from a dedicated space at home, or drive a personal vehicle for the business?

    If yes, look at

    Home office and vehicle costs

A home space used regularly and only for the business can be deducted. So can business miles in a personal vehicle, if you keep a log. Owners often under-claim or skip both.

    Rules and limits

The space must be your main place of business or where you meet clients. Employees generally cannot deduct unreimbursed car costs on a federal return. Records are required. Source: IRS.gov

  7. Did you file a federal return in the last three years?

    If yes, look at

    Amended return window

If you filed in the last three years, an amended return may claim a refund for credits or deductions you missed.

    Rules and limits

The general limit is 3 years from the date you filed or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. A return filed early counts as filed on the due date. Special rules apply to some claims, such as net operating losses and bad debts. Source: IRS.gov

Financing readiness and business advisory

The strongest loan request your real numbers can make.

  • Current, reconciled books, and returns that tie to them
  • A request sized to what your cash flow supports
  • The structure and term chosen before you apply

We are not a lender. You choose the lender; lenders make every credit decision.

One day, hour by hour.

What happens between your first call and your deadline. Software and people work in parallel, not one month after another.

  1. Hour 0

    Scope and fee, in writing

A 15-minute call with an engagement lead. We confirm the deadline, the periods involved and exactly what has to be delivered, then send a written scope and fee. Nothing starts until you approve it.

    Engagement lead

  2. Hour 1

    Secure access

Read-only bank and card connections or statement exports, your accounting file, payroll and loan statements. Exchanged through a secure channel we set up with you.

    You and your engagement lead

  3. Hour 2

    The engine runs

Every statement is ingested and every transaction extracted, normalized and categorized against your chart of accounts. Anything the engine is unsure about goes to a person instead of being guessed.

  4. Hour 6

    Reconciliation

Accountants tie every bank and card account to its statements, month by month, and clear the review queue: transfers, owner draws, loans, payroll and sales tax.

    Accounting team

  5. Hour 14

    CPA review

A CPA reviews the ledger, the adjusting entries and the financial statements. Every adjustment is documented with its source and its reason.

  6. Hour 18

    Legal perspective, when it matters

When the deadline involves an IRS notice, a lender covenant, an audit or a dispute, attorneys on our team coordinate with your counsel so the numbers and the legal position line up before anything goes out.

    Attorney

  7. Hour 24

    Delivered

Reconciled books, financial statements and tax-ready workpapers, with a memo listing every open item and assumption. Then a call to walk you through it.

    Engagement lead

Illustrative schedule. Timing depends on how complete the records are and how quickly access is granted; your schedule is confirmed in writing at scoping.

Machine speed. Human judgment.

Software does the volume. People make the calls. That division of labor is how a year of books can take a day, and why every figure in the result is documented for a lender, an auditor or an examiner.

Thirty people. One engagement desk.

A 30-person team that includes CPAs and attorneys, one mark for each of us. The engagement lead who scopes your work stays on it until delivery. Accountants clear everything the engine flags, a CPA reviews before anything leaves, and attorneys step in when a deadline carries legal exposure.

What lands on your desk.

Indexed like a workpaper binder, because that is what it is. Each engagement includes the items your deadline calls for.

  1. Reconciled bank and card accounts

Every account tied to its statements for every month in scope.

  2. A categorized general ledger

A clean chart of accounts, with every adjusting entry documented.

  3. Financial statements

Profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow, by month, quarter or year.

  4. Trial balance and tax-ready workpapers

Ready for your tax preparer, your lender or whoever needs them next.

  5. A review memo

Open items, assumptions and recommendations, in plain language.

  6. Your updated accounting file

The finished books, in the system you already use.

Every debit has a credit. Since 1494.

CrLas Vegas, today

In 1494, in Venice, the mathematician and Franciscan friar Luca Pacioli published the first printed description of double-entry bookkeeping. The rule: record every transaction twice, as a debit in one account and a matching credit in another, so the books prove themselves.

ZOCREST still follows his rule on every engagement, just faster. The engine posts every entry with both halves, and the books close on a trial balance where debits equal credits, reviewed by a CPA before they leave our desk.

      Our commitments

An emergency is the wrong time for surprises. So the scope, the fee and the deadline are agreed in writing before we start. A named lead answers your calls. Every open item is disclosed, never buried. And your records are handled with the discretion you would expect from a team of CPAs and attorneys.

      • Written scope and fee

You approve the deliverables, the deadline and the price before any work begins.

      • A named engagement lead

One person who knows your file and picks up the phone, from scoping to delivery.

      • Open items in writing

Anything unresolved is listed in the memo, with what it would take to close it.

      • Confidential by default

Access limited to your engagement team, read-only connections where possible, NDAs on request.

      Four ways to start today.

Write, ask for a call, send records or let us into your books. Every route reaches the same desk, and we aim to respond the same day.

      Call me back

Leave a number and the best time. An engagement lead calls you back, and we aim to call the same day.

      Best time to call

      What business owners ask first.

Anything else, ask on the scoping call or email support@zocrest.com. The call takes 15 minutes and commits you to nothing.

Can you really catch up a year of books in a day?

When bank and card records are complete, yes. The engine processes the transactions in hours while the team reconciles and reviews in parallel. Multi-year or badly incomplete records can take longer. You get the exact timeline in writing before you commit.

What do you need from me?

Read-only access to your bank and card accounts, or statement exports, plus your accounting file if you have one, payroll reports, loan statements and your most recent tax return. We send a precise checklist after the scoping call.

      How is pricing set?

Emergency turnaround is a premium service, priced per engagement on the periods involved, transaction volume, the condition of the records and the deadline. The fee is agreed in writing before any work starts, so there are no hourly surprises.

Can you prepare the tax return too?

We deliver tax-ready workpapers to the preparer you already use, and when it is part of the agreed scope, a CPA on our team can prepare the return from the finished books. Tell us which you prefer when we scope the work.

Can you make my books audit-proof?

No one can promise the IRS will never ask. What we deliver is audit-ready books: every number traced to a source document, every adjustment explained, and a binder an examiner can follow. If a letter does arrive, our CPAs and attorneys work the response with you.

Will you find money I'm owed?

We look for missed deductions, unclaimed credits and overpaid tax in your recent returns. A refund claim generally has to be filed within three years of the original return, so the sooner we look, the more years are still open. We confirm eligibility before anything is filed, and we never pad a claim.

Can you help my business qualify for a loan?

We prepare your real numbers the way lenders underwrite them: reconciled statements, documented add-backs, a debt schedule and tax returns that tie to the books. We never inflate a figure. Clean, supportable numbers are what get through underwriting.

Is it safe to upload documents here?

Uploaded files are encrypted before they are stored, they can only be opened from our private inbox, which is protected by a password and an authenticator code, and they are deleted automatically after 30 days unless your engagement needs them longer. Prefer another route? Email support@zocrest.com and we will send a secure link.

How do you keep my financial data secure?

Access is limited to the people on your engagement, bank connections are read-only wherever possible, and files are exchanged through a secure channel we set up with you. We are happy to sign your NDA.

Which accounting systems do you work in?

QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Xero, or a clean spreadsheet ledger if you have no system yet. If you use something else, mention it in your request.

      What if records are missing?

We rebuild what we can from bank and card statements and flag everything that needs your input. Anything that stays unresolved is listed in the review memo, with what it would take to close it.

Do you only work with Nevada businesses?

No. We are based in Las Vegas and work with businesses across the United States, remotely and securely.

      Tell us what's due.

About two minutes. An engagement lead reviews every emergency request, and we aim to respond the same day.

      What's the emergency? Required
      When do you need it?
      How should we reach you?
      Add details optional
How far behind are the books?

Please don't include account numbers, tax IDs or passwords here. A secure upload opens as soon as you send this.

Sending a request commits you to nothing.
